The international airports managed by the Tunisian Civil Aviation & Airports Authority (OACA) are the gate way to Tunisia.
The most essential role and aim of OACA is to ensure for each a high standard welcome and the utmost comfort.

In order to do this, during the last 30 years, OACA took care on the one hand of planning and equipping new airport platforms according to strategic tourist zones by developing passengers terminal capacity to cope with the increase of passengers flow in order to facilitate throughput , on the other hand it worked for the improvement and diversification of facilities offered within its airports.

In 2008, the total capacity of the 8 Tunisian Airports reached 14 million 050 thousand passengers per year. The number of passengers processed through these airports during the same year reached 11 million 364 771. This passenger evolution rate was +3.3 % in comparison with 2007 .

Tunis Carthage International Airport (AITC ) is the main airport in Tunisia. It processes about 35.7 % of total traffic. AITC dealt with 4 million 218 328 passengers in 2008.
After the development of its infrastructure and terminal area in April 98, AITC capacity reached 4.5 million passengers. After the inauguration of a second terminal of Tunis Carthage airport "Terminal II" in September 23, 2006, a project fulfilled on the instruction of His Excellence the President of the Republic Zine El Abidine BEN ALI, the AITC reached the capacity of 5 million passengers.

As far as airport infrastructure is concerned, the airport has witnessed the extension of aircraft parking areas as well as the opening of new taxiways and new storage zones for handling equipment.
The main achievements fulfilled during the last decade are the following :

1. The building of a new check in hall on the first floor regrouping all the necessary services.
2. The construction of new satellite boarding lounges .
3. The re-planning of the terminal on the ground floor, by setting up a new module inside the terminal. This module is intended to deal with passengers of domestic lines at the arrival as well as at the departure.
4.The building of a viaduct permitting departure traffic to reach directly the first floor of the terminal.
5.The digging of the subway which connects the Boulevard of Leader Yasser Arafet to that of 7 Novembre.
6.The extension of the car parking in order to increase its capacity to 2800 cars.
7.The planning and the reorganization of passenger terminal.
8.The development and the renovation of spaces intended for commercial activities, mainly airside.
9.The shift of the information desks’ location and embellishment.
10.The running of a VIP lounge which allows the improvement of the services given to the customers of airlines (VIP, first and business class passengers. ).
11.The planning of a new check-in area for first and business class passengers.
12.The accomplishment of new premises for the switchboard allowing better service quality.
13.Developing the check-in zone of Tunis Carthage International airport passenger terminal.
14.Few hundreds of meters far from the main terminal, a new ultramodern and functional building "Terminal II” came to reinforce the airports infrastructure of the country.

 

Concerning airport equipment, the AITC is considered to be endowed with a set of new equipment of high technology meant to improve the quality of the service and to automate certain airport operational activities, such as:
- A new Information and TV board system has been set and thus enabled to improve the quality of flight display and to supply passengers with correct and reliable information about flight time and scheduling.
- A new luggage sorting system has been also set up in order to guarantee an automatic processing and sorting of the checked -in luggage set, from the check- in zone on the first floor to the containers located on the ground floor with a view to transfer them to the aircraft.
- Nine telescopic fingers presenting a new aircraft parking configuration offering a high standard quality for passengers. More over, the aircraft parking area is made up of 46 position.
- It is important to note that it is for the first time in the Tunisian Airports that this terminal is equipped with the information system “CUTE” used for the check-in and allows to optimize the use of spaces and facilities by the common operation by all airlines as well as the effective handling companies in the terminal, to increase the airport capacity and to improve service quality.

Monastir Habib Bourguiba International Airport (AIMHB) is the second airport in Tunisia. AIMHB which is mainly a charter airport serves the tourist zone in the East Center of Tunisia. In terms of passenger traffic , this airport dealt with 4 million 262 thousand passengers in 2008. It is also considered one of the first charter airports in Africa.
This platform has been achieved in order to ensure the tourist development of Cap Bon and Sahel regions ( Hammamet, Sousse, Monastir, Mahdia …).
The airport started with a capacity of 500 000 passengers per year in order to reach 3 500 000 passergers in the year 2005.

Tunisian Civil Aviation and Airports Authority (OACA) concluded a concession contract with a private company for the operation of the international Airport of Monastir Habib Bourguiba starting from january 1st 2008.
The main achievements fulfilled during the last decade are the following :
1.
Aircraft parking development to 4 additional parking positions.
2. Re-planning and extension of the VIP lounge.
3. Inerearing the number of check-in desks.
4. Transfer of the former departure zone from the ground floor to the new zone at the first floor.
5. Planning and conversion of the former domestic boarding lounge to a lounge for police and customs formalities.
6. Accomplishment of upright services towards the first floor.
7. Planning and reorganization of passenger terminal.

8. Building a new area for aircraft maintenance.


Djerba Zarzis International Airport (AIDZ) is the second charter airport in Tunisia, it is located in the South and it serves the tourist zone of Djerba Island. AIDZ dealt with 2 million 621 thousand passengers in 2008.This airport had initially a capacity of 500 000 passengers per year, it underwent an extension in 1992 and its capacity has been increased to 1.5 million passengers per year.
His Excellence the President of the Republic inaugurated in December 2007 the airport's extension that increased its capacity to 4 000 000 passengers.
The main achievements fulfilled during the last decade are the following :
1.
Development of aircraft and taxiway areas.
2. Reorganization and embellishment of the air terminal.
3. Accomplishment and operation of a new " Catering installation ".
4. Construction of a different terminal module, with a capacity of 2.5 million passengers, essentially for charter flights .
Sfax Thyna International Airport (AIST) serves the second Tunisian commercial city and its surroundings i.e. the region of Sfax. Located on a civilian and military platform, it processed about 74 924 passengers in 2008. The traffic is mainly national.
Indeed, international flights are ensured by Tunis Air , linking Sfax to European cities such as Paris. After the inauguration of a new passengers terminal in 2007, Sfax Thyna International Airport capacity reached 500 000 passengers.

The main achievements fulfilled during the last decade are the following :
1.
Redevelopment and improvement of the passenger terminal in 1988.
2. Reinforcement and extension of the take-off runway in 1989.
3. Building freight terminal in 1996.
4. Setting up new infrastructures (hangar, taxiways, aircraft parking, etc.).

5. Rehabilitation and reinforcement of the 15/33 runway.

6. Building a new control tower and a technical block.

 

 

Tozeur Nefta International Airport (AITN) is mainly a charter airport, which serves the tourist zone in the Tunisian South. The AITN is located at the doorway of the Sahara and today, it has the advantage of totally opening up the South of the country to international tourism.

The architectural scheme is inspired by the specific, local style, evoking the charms of the far South in order to fit it in its surroundings. This airport processed 74 924 passengers in 2008. Autumn and winter of each year are the high season for this airport. It is mainly frequented by very important persons who come to spend their holidays in the Tunisian South.

Within the aim of having a high standard quality and a rapid traffic fluidity, the AITN underwent diverse developments.

The main achievements fulfilled during the last decade are the following :
1.
Extending the check-in hall and public lounge.
2. Turning the old luggage delivery hall into the national departure hall.
3. Building a new arrival hall whitin the international air side area.
4. Separating the domestic and international passenger route.
5. Development of aircraft parking area & car parking area.
6. Setting up a new canteen and a new freight terminal.
7. Laying out of green zone.

7 Novembre Tabarka International Airport (AI7NovT), located in the north west region of Tunisia, serves a high quality tourist area, and is an important device in the country's airport mechanism. Opened onto the northern Tunisian region it relates the far northern region of Tunisia to the areas of the eastern shoreline that are traditionally more popular with tourists.
Marked by a prestigious past and a strong identity as far as culture and tourism are concerned, the town of Tabarka asserted itself thanks to the building of this airport.

The architecture is designed so as to combine both a modern and traditional look. The terminal has one ground floor receiving all passenger activities and an upper floor housing the administration offices. Its linear, simple look and its consistency with the traditional and modern style have been enhanced by the use of local and traditional equipment for the façade improvement.

The AI7NovT dealt with 70 584 passengers in 2008. Government measures as regards to fixing rates have been recently settled and they have as a goal that encouraging activity development upon this airport.


The main achievements fulfilled during the last decade are the following :
1.
Embellishment of the passenger terminal .
2. Construction of a building for general means at the airport of Tabarka.

Gafsa Ksar International Airport (AIGK) is the last born of the OACA. It serves the inner Southern areas and allows to meet more precisely the needs of quality tourism. The AIGK dealt with 7 631 passengers in 2008.
It is in the form of two wings, separed by a central space, both a public hall and a patio, the microclimate of which allows to soften the effects of the sand wind. The patio is surrounded by other areas such as departure and arrival areas.
The original aspect of this architectural scheme was to look, through the functional dispatching up of the different areas, for a layout meeting the standards of both practicality and the traditional look of local architecture.


Through all its International airports, Tunisian Civil Aviation & Airports Authority holds also a very significant role in promoting the Tunisian Tourism at the same time by its actions and by its perseverance in its progress to wards The Excellence.
